06 Dec 2016
The Lundin Foundation and Boteti Mining community social investment (CSI) have come together to create shared prosperity for the Boteti community.
Addressing the Boteti Sub-council recently, the safety health and environment manager, Mr Ewetse Mathaba, said the Lundin Foundation and Boteti Mining had two programmes, which were the abattoir re-development and Karowe Emerging Entrepreneurs Fund (KEEF).
Mr Mathaba said the two prgrammes aimed at developing and implement long term sustainable initiatives that benefitted host community and optimise the benefits of developing natural resources.
He added that the abattoir started operation in May 2016, and had so far been a qualified success despite a few critical challenges that the foundation is working to resolve.
Mr Mathaba also said that KEEF is a fund that was set up to invest in promising businesses and ideas in the Boteti Sub District. He noted that their Corporate Social Investment, KEEF, alongside LEA and Barclays Bank funded eight (8) businesses and provided them with support.
Mr Mathaba further said Lundin also proposed two key initiatives going forward, the Karowe Village Initiatives Fund (KVIF) and the Letlhakane Community Center.
He said KVIF aimed at supporting communities to solve local challenges and that would be achieved through consultation with the community and stakeholders.
Mr Mathaba highlighted that the Foundation and Boteti Mining also have new project proposals to add to the existing ones, the small stock ranch at Khwee, horticulture irrigation project at Mokubilo, public toilets in Letlhakane and the community hardware store at Mmadikola.
He further stated that Lundin Foundation and Boteti Mining CSI sent their requests to the council seeking council approval for the Village Initiatives Fund proposal and the technical and management support from the council to make projects successful. ENDS
