Tonota sub-council employees donate house

06 Dec 2016

Tonota Sub-district Council employees have donated a two bedroomed house to the Machara family in Shashe Mooke.

Handing over the house on Friday (December 2), the sub-district council chairperson retired Colonel Anderson Moalosi applauded employees for the gesture saying it was in response to the Presidential Housing Appeal.

He said while it took years to complete the house, employees deserved a pat on the back as what they did was not only to show compassion but would also instill dignity in the Machara family.

Col Moalosi said the Shashe Mooke community should also celebrate the house as it will be counted among the developments of their village.

Giving an overview of the project, acting principal social welfare officer, Ms Salona Namane said in 2013 the sub district did a survey to establish potential beneficiaries and the Machara were among the five identified families.

She said since the council did not have a budget for the house, employees embarked on fund raising activities towards the building. She explained that the council engaged some soccer teams and organised tournaments to raise funds.

Ms Namane said other fund raising activities included casual Fridays through which council employees paid P2 each. She said some employees also volunteered to mould bricks on Fridays and the council’s architecture and buildings was engaged to do bricklaying. Ms Namane thanked all stakeholders who contributed towards the project.

A representative of the family, Mr Lameck Machara thanked the council employees for building a house for his siblings saying they will have a better place to sleep.

He thanked the Shashe Mooke community for their support. ENDS
