Kgatleng District Council awarded and commended their staff for outstanding performance under the theme: Together, Towards Tomorrow: Shaping the Future-a Way of Life at the Workplace.’

The most prestigious award of the event went to Ms Dorcus Mpedi who scooped the employee of the year and the council secretary’s awards, while Ms Kerileng Senwamadi scooped council chairman’s award 2015/2016.

When addressing staff during the award ceremony recently, Kgatleng District council secretary, Mr Nelson Mogapi said there was need for appreciation in life and appreciating hard work enhances service delivery.

Mr Mogapi said not all could be awarded but the outstanding performers would always be recognised thereby urging the rest to aim at being trendsetters.

“Not all can get the awards, only the best of the best, others however will follow, competition enhances service delivery,” Mr Mogapi said.

He also said there were challenges in the workplace as some do not understand their work and lack of commitment, while some do not even understand the vision of the council.

He urged all employees to come on board and not miss the road to success.

Mr Mogapi advised those who did not win not to despair as it was not the end of the road but challenged them to improve and be better.

The deputy council secretary, Ms Bonolo Mokone said employees need constant motivation to continue serving the public well.

Ms Mokone further said the awards gave them an opportunity to celebrate trendsetters who had demonstrated achievement in service delivery.

She said this would inspire and motivate others to perform better and coerce others to change their attitudes towards work and aspire to be trend setters themselves.

In his remarks, Kgatleng Council chair, Mr Mpho Morolong said the service excellence awards celebrated staff members who had worked tirelessly to make a difference for the people they serve, and those who had demonstrated extraordinary leadership attributes compassion and humility in the delivery of services to the Kgatleng community.

Mr Morolong said government was under pressure to adopt innovative approaches and solutions that would reduce spending while prioritising and fast tracking service delivery.

He added that public service awards provided the council with an opportunity to demonstrate tangibly its capacity to innovate and modernise service delivery.

He applauded departments that participated in the 2015/2016 awards submissions which he said showed that the enthusiasm for participation has not weakened and confirmed that innovative ideas and action can be and are being implemented for the better of the nation.

“Behind each entry, there is the commitment of the staff concerned; people who was or created an opportunity to make the difference.

They are not people simply doing their jobs- they are people with vision, who walk an extra mile and apply their sense of creativity and commitment to serve differently,” he said. ENDS
