Botswana Alcohol Industry Association (BAIA) has donated about 250 cases of pre-packaged water to Botswana Police service (BPS) in Gaborone.  

When handing the donations to BPS commissioner, BAIA chairperson Mr Mothusi Molokomme, said the gesture was a move by the association to help BPS, specifically the traffic department during the holidays to use by the police officers especially at the road blocks.

Mr Molokomme explained that the intention with the choice of beverage was due to climatic conditions experienced by the country.

He said the officers worked under harsh weather conditions as the country is experiencing hot days.

Therefore the gesture is a way of helping officers to stay hydrated and help them execute the mandate of BPS of keeping the roads safe and will ultimately help them improve productivity levels.

“We pledge to partner with BPS going forward as hydration partner,” he said.

He explained that details of the deal will follow in a later stage owing to the fact that they had come up with such idea recently but cited the donation will pave way for greater things between them and BPS.

Mr Molokomme further stated that BAIA is committed to partner with BPS as had been shown by their mutual actions towards combating drunken driving.

“For his part BPS commissioner Mr Keabetswe Makgophe expressed his gratitude towards gesture presented by BAIA.

Mr Makgophe acknowledged that since water was a commodity in a person's life, the gesture would come in handy for his officers especially in what he described as an unfortunate weather conditions during their road blocks.

He explained that after they came up with a mission statement, they came to realise that there is need to partner with other people in order to prevail on their endeavour to curb crime.

“Our mission states that we are committed to providing a professional policing service in partnership with the community,” he said.

Therefore  he said the donation is a demonstration of true partnership. ENDS
