Creativity key in competitions

Artists have been urged to be creative and avoid stage fright if they were to make their mark in competitions.
An adjudicator in the recent constituency competitions in Bobonong, Goitseone Dinotshi, said creativity was key in competitions and urged artists to come up with new ideas that could enhance their artistic work.
Dinotshi further said stage fright was another issue that negatively affected artists and therefore said it was crucial for them to interact with audience to gain confidence.
He highlighted that segaba was one of the instruments operated with three fingers to vary tones therefore using two fingers would result in monotone. and advised artists who were operating traditional instruments like guitar to avoid performing four or five songs in one competition as that is against the constituency regulations.
Dinotshi explained that artists especially poets do not manage time when performing as they waist much time praising themselves than talking about the theme. He lamented that some artists do not have their own instruments therefore they rely on borrowing from others.
Another adjudicator, Selebatso Thebele said that the theme for this year constituency competitions concentrated on reflecting back on the achievements Botswana has attained since independence.
“As we are coming from the jubilation days we must celebrate based on the things that our country has managed to do and conserve,” he continued, citing cultural heritage.
He encouraged dikhwaere groups to be uniform when performing adding that some had a tendency of hiding behind others. ENDS
