Boteti to implement 84 projects

Boteti Sub-district Council will this financial year implement a total of 84 projects.


The projects include eight of maintenance of government facilities, eight for debushing and pruning of trees, five are minor construction projects, control of litter dumping and litter picking in 18 villages, vegetation control, erection of fence in one village, desalting of dams in two villages and one involving excavation of a pipeline.

Boteti Sub District ipelegeng programme coordinator, Mr Solomon Nkanokang said this during the district sub council meeting recently.

Mr Kanokang said 770 beneficiaries have been engaged since the inception of Ipelegeng Programme this financial year, involving 603 females and 167 males.

He said out the number, 411 are youth, 305 females and 106 males.

He said over P22million was released in June to start implementation of the Ipelegeng projects, adding that the remaining 40 per cent was requested in November.


Regarding employment, he said 16 941 people were engaged in 2016/17 being 11075 women and 5866 men. Youth comprised of 8644 people, being 5057 females and 3587 males.


Mr Nkanokang said 65 suppliers were engaged for feeding programme for the month of October to December 2016, while the sustenance initiative attracted a total of 195 suppliers of snack.

He cited shortage of transport as the main challenge of the programme, adding that they would continue sourcing out vehicles from other departments.  

Mr Nkanokang said Ipelegeng programme’s main objective is to provide short term employment and relief citizens from drought years.


He said at the same time it carries out essential development projects that had been identified and prioritised through the normal development planning process. It has also been designed to maximise employment of simple tools, unskilled labour to construct and or maintain public facilities.


Mr Nkanokang also said the projects undertaken in this programme and the manner in which they are implemented satisfies maintenance, relief and development requirements. ENDS
