Parents urged to support childrens education
30 Nov 2016
Parents whose children are enrolled to do their standard one next year have been encouraged to support their children’s education.
Speaking during the Learn Right Pre school graduation ceremony, Jwaneng Customary Court president, Mr Mpaesele Itumeleng said education was a three-way thing; hence parents should play their role of encouraging and helping their children achieve the best marks.
He added that although children spend most of their time with the teacher, parents know their children better therefore there was need for parents to make the children’s learning easier and fun.
He further said parents should be mindful of the environment they raise their children in.
He said parents should ensure that their children do not experience any kind of abuse if they want them to excel well in school.
He added that parents should avoid using abusive words, arguing and fighting in front of their children because the abuse they experience would play a major role in moulding their personality and their social skills.
“Children copy what their parents do, if they grow up in an unstable environment one way or the other that is going to affect them negatively.
We also have to be mindful that children at the ages of two to seven years, their brains are like memory cards they store everything happening around them,” he said.
Also, he advised parents to take part in different school committees that their children would be enrolled in.
By so doing, he said that would be one way of learning and sharing parental skills, which would be useful in the children’s education. ENDS
