Legislators make constituency requests

MP for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu has requested for a library in his constituency to serve the 42 000 inhabitants.

Debating Chapter nine of the draft National Development Plan 11 (NDP 11) in Parliament, he said people in his constituency were currently relying on the MC Connell College school library.

He also said he welcome the idea to review the LIMID and called for maintenance of cordon fences in his constituency to curb the spread of FMD.

Mr Batshu also called for clinic at Goshwe stating that during rainy periods, residents were unable to access the clinic at Tutume.

Shoshong MP, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele called for roads as an enabler for economic activity in his constituency.

He said areas such as Moralane, Mokgenene and Otse should have roads that link the villages.

He also expressed that he was disheartened that Shoshong sub-district did not feature during this plan period, adding that government should therefore provide service centres at Shoshong and Otse.

MP for Good Hope-Mabule, Kgosi Lotlamoreng II called for internal roads in his constituency. He also called for upgrading of Good Hope sub-district in to a fully-fledged council.

MP for Mahalapye East, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso condemned trans-generational affairs and unprotected sex among young people, which she said was increasing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

She called for mindset change among farmers in an effort to increase food production.

MP for Mmathethe-Molapowabojang, Dr Alfred Madigele called for construction of Kgotla offices and appointment of headmen of records at Lorwana, Diabo and Majaalela.

He also called for review of conditions of service for headmen of arbitration. Dr Madigele said Gopong, Metlojana and Dintlana residents required a school because their villages have since grown and that children walk long distances to Digawana for school.

He called for internal roads and construction of bridge at Molapowabojang and Mmathethe to enable residents to access other nearby villages during floods.

He said he was happy for envisaged Tsoaneng clinic that has been included for NDP 11.

He also said Mogojogojo needed a library and that residents have started contributing towards its construction, hence government should meet them halfway.

Dr Madiegele said Molapowabojang should have an administrative authority to serve the nearby villages and availability of youth centres at Mmathethe and Magoriapitse.

Molepolole South MP, Dr Tlamelo Mmatli called for provision of resources at Scottish Livingstone Hospital and availability of medication.

He said he was unhappy that stigma surrounding ARVs dispensary was still visible because the patients were still receiving their medication at general dispensary for all patients.

Dr Mmatli also called for solar energy that would pump water for Molepolole residents who time and again experience water shortage due to power cuts.

He also called for tarred roads at Mmanoko and Gamodubu. He condemned some of the laws that Parliament recently passed such as establishment of voting machines and laws dealing with labour issues.

Okavango MP, Bagalatia Arone thanked the Ministry of Health and Wellness for the planned construction of hospital in Shakawe and clinic at Kautwe and Nkarange. He also called for construction of health facilities at Mokgacha and Mogotho.

Mr Arone said water supply was still a challenge in his area and that elephants continue to pose a serious threat in food security.

He said he was thankful for upcoming Kgotla offices at Etsha 1 and Kautwe village.


He called for a bus rank at Shakawe and that Youth Ministry should consider strengthening support of young people to acquire land to expedite youth programmes.

Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy said he was concerned about relocation of medical doctors who leave the country for greener pastures.

He said Health and Wellness ministry should improve remuneration for doctors, adding that Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital theatres should be increased as currently only one wing was operational.

Mr Billy also said air conditioners for theatres were hardly operational at the hospital, which he said was costing government a lot of money referring patients to Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone.

He said the doctors were now thinking of conducting operations at night when temperatures have dropped, something he said was unheard of. Mr Billy said Area-S health post was no longer serving youth in the area because of poor services and that they have resorted to using Area-W that was also overwhelmed. He also condemned unfair distribution of national wealth.

He called for integrated sporting facilities in urban centres to fully engage unemployed youth in an effort to curb social ills caused by frustrations.

MP for Gabane-Mmankgodi, Major Gen. Pius Mokgware called for expedition of land allocation for commercial plots.

Maj Gen. Mokgware also called for accessible roads that link villages in his constituency to Gaborone to relieve the only one road that lead to Trans-Kalahari.

‘’One access road that pass through Game City, Mmokolodi, Tloaneng, Manyana will improve lives of people along these villages,” he said.

MP Mokgware said Mmankgodi was experiencing water shortage and that Tsolamosese residents were still relying on water from standpipes whereas they lived in the periphery of the city. ENDS
