Council attends to storm water drainage

30 Nov 2016

The heavy rains that recently caused floods in Molepolole have forced the Kweneng District Council to device means to help mitigate the situation.

Kweneng District Council secretary, Mr Goleba Kgari said in an interview that they have deployed staff to work towards unblocking trenches to allow easy flow of water to avoid similar occurrence while awaiting the long term solution.

“We had hoped the poor Molepolole storm water drainage could be solved through the master plan for storm water drainage system to direct water flow, but the idea has since been put on hold due to lack of funding,” he said.

He said they had anticipated incorporating the master plan for storm water drainage system with phase two of the Molepolole internal roads project proposal under District Development Plan Eight, but they did not succeed.

Mr Kgari emphasised the need for water drainage system, adding that unavailability of funds continued to frustrate intentions to ensure projects implementation in the district.

He said although provision of services at the P9 million Mafenyatlala Mall service centre was greatly affected by flooding, service provision has since been normalised.

The most affected areas at the centre he highlighted was the rooter, power supply cables and some documents from Botswana Unified Revenue Services BURS who are currently offering services at the facility. ENDS
