Legislators want increased media coverage
29 Nov 2016
The Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has complained about poor Radio Botswana reception in Ukhwi and Zutshwa saying people there were not up to date about government programmes.
Debating draft NDP11, he said there was no stadium in the western side of Botswana and none has been provided for in the draft NDP 11.
MP for Letlhakeng- Lephephe, Mr Liakat Kablay also said the DailyNews was not distributed in his area hence his people remained in the dark about the government programmes they could use to improve their lives.
He welcomed the road infrastructure in Letlhakeng but said streetlights should now be provided.
MP Kablay further said there were no developments in Lephephe, Sojwe and Shadishadi adding some dikgotla do not even have furniture.
He said his constituents have welcomed Ipelegeng and called on the government to increase the number of employees.
MP Noah Salakae of Ghanzi North said the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) impoverished Batswana as it takes three to five months for it to pay farmers.
He said Batswana should be told the truth about what is happening with the parastatal.
MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said the Central District, despite it being huge, only had one Btv crew making it difficult for MPs to be provided with coverage when addressing kgotla meetings in their respective constituencies.
He welcomed the addition of a hospital to be constructed in Letlhakane during NDP 11 saying the village with a population of 28 000 deserved such a facility.
MP Gilbert Mangole of Mochudi West said his constituents were happy a hospital is to be constructed in Mochudi.
He however wondered what happened to the policy adopted by government turning health posts into clinics saying Kgomodiatshaba and Pilane still have health posts.
MP Mangole said an affirmative action should be used in the case of remote Kgomodiatshaba adding Pilane has grown in terms of population and therefore a health post could not service the villagers adequately.
Member of Parliament for Bobirwa, Mr Shaw Kgathi has appealed to the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration to provide a permanent Btv crew in Bobonong to provide coverage in the constituency.
He said the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development should provide P2 million for Youth Development Fund (YDF) to each of the 57 constituencies.
MP Kgathi said Selebi Phikwe should be turned into a Centre of Sports Excellence.
The Bobirwa MP called for construction of a bridge over Thune River to enable Molalatau and Mathathane residents to reach their farms.
He further called for the maintenance of a veterinary fence between Lentswe-le-Moriti and Mashatu Game Reserve and said a plot has been allocated for Tsetsebjwe LAC but wondered why it had been excluded from NDP 11. ENDS
