UB Kicks beaten in their own turf

Gaborone United redeemed their pride by beating UB Kicks 2-0 in a women super league game played at University of Botswana stadium on Saturday.
Gaborone United played one all draw against Meat Girls of Lobatse in a league opener game last week, but this time they came with guns blazing in ensuring that they earn three valuable points.
The game started at a high pace with both teams attacking each other searching for an early goal.
As the pressure continued, Gaborone United were awarded a penalty on the seventh minute after UB Kicks player fouled Masego Koboto inside the box, and Kebalipile Jwankie did not waste it but put it at the back of the net.
The goal did not dampen the spirit of UB Kicks as they continued to surge forward looking for an equaliser and their hard work nearly paid dividend just some seconds before half time after Nelly Reid delivered a good cross to Kedibonye Baitshupi but failed to finish it off.
The game went into recess with the scoreboard reading 1-0. After the break, UB Kicks continued with their attacks with Malefo Tshekiso and Onalenna Manji trying very hard to fight for their team, but that was not to be, given that GU compact defence was always on alert.
In the 54th minute GU launched “mother of all attack” when Wame Letshelea received a good cross from Goitsemang Tlamma, and Wame made a killer pass to Amantle Mapogo who then tapped in to put her team in a good position to earn three points in the second game of the season.
Nevertheless, UB did not go down without a fight and on the 83rd minute Kepalipile Jwankie nearly costed GU after her ball was intercepted by Doreen Tshenyego who then turned and faced the goal keeper but she was let down by her poor decision making of failing to pick a good spot and tap the ball in the net.
UB Kicks coach, Matlhogonolo Mokgosi said in an interview that he was worried that his team gave away an easy goal after failing to guard their opponents in the first stanza of the game.
He however said he was happy with his team’s fighting spirit immediately after the goal because they fought and attacked their opponents looking for an equaliser.
“We need results and we are going back to training, and try to work very hard.
Second game of the season we have recorded a loss after a draw, but we will try to work hard on our finishing techniques so as to come up with positive results,” he said.
Gaborone United coach, Paul Mizi said he was happy with their first win of the season, adding that credit should be given to her team because they have won a very difficult game despite the challenges they had ahead of the encounter.
“We have not been training due to lack of transport money, but for a team to play like this despite not training is something commendable,” he said. ENDS
