BNOC capacitates BPS officers

Botswana Prison Services (BPS) sport administrators undergo a four day sport administration course conducted by Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) in Gaborone.
When speaking to BOPA, BNOC representative, Wedu Motswetla said the workshop seeks to capacitate everyone who is involved in the running and managing of sports codes.
Motswetla said this came after BPS extended a request to BNOC requesting for an administration course for their sporting administrators, and that they saw it important to provide the four-day training. “We saw it befitting to capacitate them so that they learn how to manage and organise when they govern their sports clubs even events that BPS always host,” she said. She also said in attendance were coaches and players. She said the two were in a very vital position when it comes to sport administration because in most cases coaches find themselves executing dual role of coaching and managing a club.
She explained that since they play a dual role it is important for them to understand the principle of organisation and managing of clubs. For his part when he addressed the participants, Senior Assistant Commissioner Oageng Disebo advised participants to take note of the training and impart the knowledge to their clubs.
Disebo said the course was of importance for their administrators, and cited two objectives from the course which he said he believes attest to the importance of the course which the participants need to take note.
He cited that part of the objectives of the course was to sensitise athletes on issues pertaining to doping in sports.
“This is one of the issues in which some of our athletes do not understand, but it is the same issue which is a global problem in the world of sports,” he said.
However, he said the course could have not come at a better time than now, since it would reveal in detail on exactly how to avoid and be sensitised on the use of enhancing drugs. ENDS
