Former cabinet minister, Dr Gaositwe Chiepe has applauded Mercy Hand Foundation Trust for transforming the lives of fellow Batswana.
She said this on Thursday at Moshupa main kgotla where Mercy Hand Foundation Trust donated spectacles to 23 individuals.
“Charity begins at home, it’s very delightful that you launched your project in your home village and we hope you will extend the gesture to other parts of the country,” she said.
For his part, Mr Rampe said his organisation was founded primarily to take care of visually impaired adults.
“We exist purely to bless the people of Moshupa,”, Mr Rampe said.
He thanked all stakeholders who have been of great help towards the realisation of the trust’s vision particularly Optical Center Botswana (Pty) Ltd which donated 23 spectacles.
National Eye Health coordinator, Ms Alice Lehasa, said visual impairment was a concern in Botswana and therefore praised Mercy Hand Foundation for the good work.
She said the prevalence of impairment on persons 50 years and above was high and that government needed assistance from Batswana to fight the phenomena.
“If we put our hands together, we will overcome this challenge by 2020,” she said.
Mr Lekgoa Tsalaile, one of the 23 who were given spectacles was happy he now has a clear vision and called on fellow beneficiaries to fully utilise the spectacles and not put them in drawers at home.
Kgosi kgabosetso Mosielele of Moshupa pleaded with beneficiaries to take care of the gifts at all times. ENDS
