That, he said, was a clear indication of a caring government that always puts its citizens’ interests first and was keen to uplift their livelihood.
He criticised opposition party leaders who dismissed government programmes.
“It is of great concern that opposition party leader’s question the viability of government programmes while on the other hand they are using them to empower themselves,” he said.
The Vice President said government was concerned about some sections of the population who were economically vulnerable as well as disadvantaged groups such as women, orphans, the elderly and destitute.
He said efforts were being made to integrate such groups into society through policies and programmes that empowered them rather than subject them to perpetual dependency.
Mr Masisi stated that as part of promoting social inclusion and empowering Batswana in rural dwellings, government continues to roll out amenities under its revised Remote Area Development Programme.
He said it is part of the BDP mandate to ensure that a number of sustainable community based projects such as the Zutshwa salt project were implemented to empower the locals.
Furthermore, the Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North Mr Itumeleng Moipisi applauded electorates for enthroning him with the responsibility to represent them in parliament and vowed to work hand in hand with the community in addressing their needs.
