Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) budget proposals for National Development Plan (NDP 11) is P130.9 million.
Assistant minister of MYSC, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila presented this budget to Parliament for draft NDP 11 on Friday for consideration. Their projects include among others MYSC computerisation at P25 million, MYSC fleet expansion at P16.3 million and Information Management System at P1.2 million.
MYSC Infrastructure has been budgeted for P70 million that is required to construct a roof on the VIP stand at the Francistown Sport Complex facility.
“The sport complex design has a roof on top of the VIP (Western) stand, which has not been done due to financial constraints,” Mr Mzwinila said.
He said government was losing more by not constructing the roof as heavy rains continue to cause extensive damages to the VIP seats and decorated ceiling through water leakages as there was no water proofing done for the stand in anticipation of the roof cover.
Mr Mzwinila said the development of cultural infrastructure and programmes requires P18.4 million as government contribution towards the Sara and Robert Rothschild Family Foundation has pledged to construct 20 community libraries for Batswana.
He said government will be contributing by way of providing equipment and furniture as well as constructing performance stages and ablution blocks at every community library constructed by the Foundation.
The minister further said his ministry is mandated to create a conducive environment for the youth to realise a better quality of life and to develop and promote both sport and culture in collaboration with other stakeholders.
He said the youth form a major constituency of the population which presents a human capital opportunity for the country. ENDS
