National Assembly budget stands at P64.5 million

 The total estimated cost for National Assembly’s proposed programmes and projects and their budget estimates for the Eleventh National Development Plan (NDP 11) is P64. 5 million.
Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale said this when presenting the draft NDP 11 budget to Parliament on Friday that the funds will be used to implement various projects under the National Assembly.
He said a total amount required for the Botswana Speaks project is P8.7 million.  Botswana Speaks project will be cascaded to the remaining 53 constituencies during NDP 11.
He said the project will be cascaded in two phases for improved focus and monitoring and evaluation, of which its successful implementation will result in improved interaction between Members of Parliament and their constituents.
Mr Molale further said Parliament will acquire and install security equipment in and around its precincts at a required total cost of P17 million
He said the National Assembly will also use P7.8 million to computerise and automate services to improve information and communication services in line with the 1Gov and e-Parliament initiatives.
He said the National Assembly has also proposed to overhaul and refurbish recreation facilities such as the gymnasium, swimming Pool and the tennis courts to improve the conditions of service for the members that required a total cost of P6 million.
Mr Molale also said in an effort to further enhance security at the main parliament buildings, a visitor’s centre and a perimeter fence (boundary wall) will be erected around parliament at a proposed total cost of P13 million.
He said  in an effort to respond to the requests from the electorate, the National Assembly proposes to broadcast its proceedings live during the NDP 11 period at a total amount of P12 million. ENDS
