Masisi wants clean member recruitment
28 Nov 2016
Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has urged Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) members to recruit new members to the party with honest intensions first and foremost and also state solid reasons why the recruits should join their party.
Mr Masisi has further cautioned BDP members to desist from using false tricks to get people to join the BDP.
Speaking at the victory celebration for Takatokwane constituency in Salajwe on Saturday, the Vice President said the BDP has a very good track record that speaks for itself therefore it was not necessary to make people think that the BDP was a get rich quick scheme.
Rather he said hard work was the determining factor at the party for one to excel.
He also appealed to the new members to shy away from condemning government programmes and instead focus on making a good name for themselves by contributing ideas that can benefit and develop the nation.
Mr Masisi said new members just like the existing members got to enjoy the same benefits and rights explaining that they too were were entitled to hold or contest for party positions.
MP for Kgalagadi South Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen said that it was important to note that BDP was an inclusive party and that should not be taken lightly.
He however said that internal fights were the ones destroying the party.
He cautioned party members against independent candidates saying that they also contributed to the internal fightings in the party.
MP for Tati East Mr Guma Moyo advised the MP for Takatokwane to note that his constituency had high levels of poverty and unemployment.
He said that the MP should not stop advocating for his constituents until such a time that there were developments and people’s lives changed for the better.
He also said that the MP should work hand in hand with his councillors adding that if they did not work as a team, developments will lag behind in the area.
Although Mr Moyo stated that Parliament was debating the NDP 11 at its current sitting, he acknowledged that there were many challenges and that resources were scarce, therefore, he said the area MP should not be afraid to tell his constituents the truth when some developments in the area stall because of budgetary constraints.
Mr Moyo also advised BDP members to work hard at making the party attractive and shed bad habits that make the party ugly such as corruption, arrogance and abuse of power.
For his part, MP for Takatokwane constituency, Mr Ngaka thanked people who voted for him during the 2014 general elections and his constituents in general and urged them to do the same in the next general elections. ENDS
