Pastor Molefhe Nthumolang has commended President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for showing interest in spiritual matters something he described as fundamental in the running of the country.
The St John Faith Mission Apostle leader said this in an interview after receiving 10 Bibles from the President at Dovedale on Saturday.
President Khama paid the village a visit, fulfilling his promise he made in his last visit to the village.
The President brought some gifts entailing 10 Bibles, 75 blankets, lights, confectionaries and a chair for the kgosi.
After receiving the holy books, Pastor Nthumolang said he was going to distribute them to the different churches in the village.
The clergyman said that they were encouraged by the President’s interest in religious matters and said his interest would motivate some people to follow God.
“He is a supporter of faith and our responsibility as churches is to pray for him so that God gives him wisdom in leading the nation.”
The pastor said President Khama had expressed his love for the people and "love is an attribute essential in each leader."
The church leader said today’s social ills could be averted if people knew and feared God.
He said they were worried by Dovedale youth’s lack of hunger for God and hoped that the President’s gift would persuade them to repent and ultimately change their unbecoming behaviour.
Kgosi Ditodi Namane of Dovedale also showered the President with praises for fulfilling his promise to visit the village and said that had given them dignity and a sense of pride. He expressed delight over the visit and gave President Khama with a goat as well as water melons from one of the resident Mr Johannes Moller, who owns Dikgatong Farm.
For his part, President Khama said he was happy to have found time to fulfill his promise.
He appreciated the gifts he recieved and said they were befitting given that he had ventured into farming. He commended the village choir for donning Botswana colours and told the residents that the BOT50 celebrations would end in December.
He said although the BOT50 celebrations would end in December, the nation would continue to dress in national colours every Friday. ENDS
