Parents have been advised to make their children’s education a priority.

The Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya, during Adelaide Primary School prize giving in Serowe on Saturday.

The Palapye legislator told parents to give education including payment of school fees the priority it deserved.

The speaker was reacting to concerns raised by the School Advisory Council chairperson Mr Steady Setlhaba that the school was owed over P888 000 for school fees.

He said this affected the school’s plan to complete some projects including equipping of the school’s borehole and improving the field, developments he said were necessary for the learning process.

Mr Goya therefore advised parents to pay school fees before they spend money on the festive season shopping spree.

He urged parents to encourage their children to take their education seriously to ensure that they benefit from government schemes such Top Achievers Programme, geared at supporting excelling students.

The Palapye MP applauded parents who played their part addeding that they were doing so because they were assured of getting value for money.

The Assistant Minister said unlike in the yesteryears when English mediums were for the few, many locals were taking their children to private schools and by so doing easing government of the burden.

The speaker said contribution of Adelaide to Botswana’s human resource development was notable.

He said Botswana sought to create knowledge based society and collaboration between the private sector and government was moving them in that direction.

On his part school head Mr Joel Tshuma, implored the students to work endlessly to ensure that their dreams are attained.

He congratulated the prize recipients and said such gesture should inspire those who did not win.

Mr Tshuma said students should all take stock of their learning attitude and top and to set high goals that will lead to achievement of goals. BOPA
