Tirelo Setshaba participants have now been incorporated into the Village Development Committees (VDCs) to be part of the committees’ daily duties and activities.
Principal programmes officer in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development in the Tutume Sub-district, Ms Wazha Fani, said the aim of the integration was to establish a link between government and residents.
Ms Fani, who was speaking at the participants’ orientation for Shashe West and Nkange constituencies in Tutume recently, said the new arrangement would make the participants work hand in hand with those who spearhead community developments in different wards across their respective villages and constituencies.
The development would also expose participants to the workplace culture from the community point of view; hence enable them to adapt to it and indulge with other young people within the community.
“The participants, young as they are, should be able to come up with ideas and strategies on how best to develop respective communities by exploring things that will be useful in their communities,” she said.
She however emphasised that for them to be able to enjoy their new working environment, botho should be the basic principle that guides them to working with other people on daily basis.
Meanwhile, the local Community development officer Ms Grace Bajiti said the new arrangement was meant to ensure work was done efficiently and effectively and for easy project monitoring and implementation.
She said Tirelo Sechaba participants were to update other stakeholder such as social workers, dikgosi and councilors on the progress of community projects so that any delays noted could be addressed immediately.
Ms Bajiti also highlighted that projects such as maintenance of houses and providing for the less privileged, among other projects within their jurisdiction, would be given a closer look.
She urged them not to take what they learn every day for granted as it builds them professionally, adding that they should be aware and resist corruption practices that may arise around.
When appreciating the program on behalf of other participants, Ms Chawada Chimbidzani said they appreciated the programs that the government provides because they do not feel neglected and being the true future generation, adding that they would build their own lives out of the experience they are going to gain.
Ms. Chimbizani added that having been given the opportunity to have work experience and network with different people, the gesture would have a lasting impact in their lives long after they have completed the programm. BOPA
