Programme on right track in Tonota

Tonota Sub-district deputy district commissioner, Ms Boitumelo Mokwena has said projects implemented under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in her jurisdiction are progressing well.
Ms Mokwenasaid in an interview with that some projects had been completed before the actual completion time and ready to be handed over.
She said this was an indication that the contractors had fully dedicated their time and energy to the works they were assigned.
As such, she said government could trust citizen companies.
Ms Mokwena called on other citizen contractors to follow suit and meet their promises of delivering the projects, which included the construction of teachers’ accommodation, school maintenance and customary court administration blocks among others.
She said the progress of the projects comes from the good relations from all the stakeholders, who actively participated in project monitoring on monthly basis.
“Stakeholders such as community leaders, dikgosi, site/project managers, sub-district management and Department of Buildings Electrical Engineering Services were all hands on in monitoring the projects for successful implementation,” Ms Mokwena said.
She said the projects had positively benefited the communities in which they were undertaken in terms of job creation and community development.
Meanwhile, the deputy district commissioner expressed concern about vandalism of school facilities by the students.She said this negatively impacts on the completion of the projects at schools and a drawback for government’s efforts to refurbish schools.
Ms Mokwena highlighted that over the past weeks, they had many reported cases of vandalism at Shashe River Secondary School by students, in particular Form Fives, who were completing their final examination.
She explained that the issue had been attended to as the students had been addressed in collaboration with the community leadership.
Ms Mokwena appealed to parents to actively play their role in moulding their children to exercise good morals at all times, either at school or at home.BOPA
