Declining performance worries govt - Goya

Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya, says government is worried about the constant decline in schools’ academic performance.

Mr Goya said this at the handing over of a donation of P11 500 worth of 20 school uniforms to needy students, a large sign board, two large refuse bins and five fruit trees to Moamogwa Primary school in Mogoditshane on Friday.

He said the state of affairs remained a worrying factor looking at the required amount of money towards improving education with insignificant results.

Mr Goya said the country was investing more on education, but the results continued to go down because students were constantly portraying negative attitude towards learning.

The assistant minister commended the private sector for its impressive responses in supporting Botswana’s education system through different roles clearly highlighting commitments of development partners in the country’s education sector.

 “Lets us portray the spirit of patriotism in collaborating with other stakeholders through supporting adopt a school initiative to complement government’s effort,” he said.

Government’s other efforts towards improving the education system include the introduction of reception classes’ initiative which aims at preparing children before going into formal classes.

Meanwhile, the president and founder of Mabaila Foundation, Mr Tshephang Mabaila highlighted the foundation’s commitment towards shaping lives of young people in Mogoditshane area.

He said although the initial request by Moamogwa school head was over the sign board, he felt the need to go an extra-mile in support of children’s education that requires holistic approach through private and public sector towards achieving the intended goal.

Mr Mabaila emphasised that the foundation is more committed towards making difference in the vulnerable segment of the society especially the young.

He briefed attendants on the impending #2017 Youth Forum slatted for March 2017 in Mogoditshane, where general issues affecting youth welfare will be addressed.

He called on stakeholders’ such as civic and community leaders to join hands in collaborating towards making a difference in support of the country’s education.

He applauded the Mabaila team of men and women’s dedication and commitments towards this endeavour.

For his part, Kgosi Keabetswe Dihutso of Mogoditshane was grateful of Mabaila Foundation’s constant support in the development of education in Mogoditshane area and called on business community in the area to emulate the good work. BOPA
