Government has committed itself to providing a flexible system for students based on their interests and capabilities, Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Fidelis Molao has said.
Speaking at DVET gradution in Gaborone recently, Mr Molao said, “government wants to address the issue of unemployment by encouraging the graduates to use the skills acquired during training to create the much needed jobs.”
Mr Molao urged the graduates to form companies that produced, among other things, furniture and get involved in job creation and at the same time creating wealth for themselves and the country.
He further said the graduates had to be mindful of their work and productivity and build self-confidence because if they did not believe in themselves, nobody would believe in them.
“We live in a constantly changing world and you have to be relevant in the ever changing world and continue learning whether formally or informally,” he said.
The assistant minister encouraged graduates to keep on reading and embracing the spirit of volunteerism in community projects and giving back to the community. He added that such endeavors would enable them to get the necessary experience. However, he wished them the best in their future endeavours and encouraged them to work hard.
Mr Basima Basima said both the students and teachers hadto celebrate this day because they have worked hard despite shortage of the necessary resources that could enable them to achieve good results.
“Graduation is the time to celebrate the results of the hard work, dedication and perseverance of both the students and their teachers,” he said.BOPA
