Council assists the vulnerable

Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) offers social protection services for all categories of vulnerable people.
The KAA council chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela, who was addressing the Sub-council meeting in Kanye recently said, for instance, a total of 18 houses were under construction for the 2016/17 financial year.
He said contracts were signed last month and the projects were intended to be handed over by end of December.
He, however, pointed out that the challenge was that some of the plots were located where there were no utilities such as water and access roads.
Another challenge was that some beneficiaries could not identify the plots and had to go back to land board.
Mr Dibeela said since inception of the Poverty Eradication Programme to date, KAA had funded 272 projects to the tune of P9 846 844. Out of the 272 projects, 231 were operational while 41 were newly funded and still at initial stages of implementation.
He said more women had been funded under the programme as opposed to men.
Concerning backyard gardening, the chairperson said 152 projects are complete, 82 are operational while 66 are non-operational.
'' It is worth noting that due to shortage of water and high water tariffs, which led to the collapse of most backyard projects, the sub-district is no longer providing backyard package to individuals,'' he said.
He further said through LIMID a total of 63 small stock projects had been concluded in the second quarter with only three Tswana chicken being done.
About Ipelegng, he said the main objective was to provide short term employment support and relief while at the same time carry out development projects that have been identified and prioritised through the normal planning process. ENDS
