Portia Sam-Hwera who represented Botswana at the Mrs World pageant which was held in Incheon, South Korea has expressed her delight for such a platform.

Speaking in an interview with BOPA on Saturday Nove, ber 19 at an appreciation ceremony, Sam-Hwera said although she did not win the coveted title she was grateful that she has brought home two awards of Mrs World friendship 2016 and Mrs World Congeniality 2016.  The former award, she said recognised the spirit of Botho which Botswana embodies.

The pageant was held on Novemeber 4 and was scooped by Mrs World Peru. Sam-Hwera said she used the platform in South Korea to promote the rich culture of the North West region and Botswana as a whole.

She promoted beads made locally and the crafts made from palm trees and matlhoa.

Her attire at the Mrs World pageant, she said represented the diverse culture found especially in the North West region such as a Herero dress and head scarfs and the traditional food such as Tswii.

The Mrs World pageant, she pointed aimed to appreciate married women as people who had special talents and careers unlike the traditions, which somehow hindered them to pursue their talents.

“Married women have families, are mothers but they also have talents and dreams therefore have to find a balance,” she said.

Sam-Hwera is also the current reigning queen of Miss Common Wealth International 2014/15. She is also model and owns Pashionbmag Model Agency which grooms upcoming models.

She said she plans to use her Mrs World-Botswana crown to raise funds to help a needy family during the coming festive season.

She appreciated the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Culture Development for sponsoring her transport fares. ENDS
