Zim dancehall maestro in Botswana

Celebrated Zimbabwean reggae dancehall maestro, Winky D, is set to perform at the Stanbic Piazza November 19 at night.
The self-acclaimed king of dancehall popularly known as Dancehall Igwe in his native Harare has written an undoubtedly party song, Disappear, which captured the festive mood of revelers.
The song has become an instant hit and has gone on to incinerate dance floors even outside African borders as he has performed in Australia and penciled to hit London in the near future.
Winky D, real name Wallace Chirimuko has a plethora of music honours under his belt amongst them 2015 song of the year award for his chat topping song disappear.
One of the City-to-City Tour organisers Lebo Merafhe expressed excitement at the prospect of bringing one of the most successful dancehall acts to Botswana.
She explained that as part of their mandate to provide cultural exchange a few southern African artistes and Djs’ have been sprinkled in to spice up the dancehall night extravaganza.
“We aim to promote and assist in the development of the dancehall genre in Botswana. We also want to encourage the spirit of togetherness and music exchange experience with other foreign acts who are more established in this genre in their respective countries,” she said.
The first round of the festival-cum-concert is billed for the Francistown Sport complex this Friday evening where supporting acts will be amongst others fellow Zimbabwean muso Judgment Yard, local artistes Vee Mampeezy, Team Distant and La Timmy.
The following day Winky D and his entourage will travel to Gaborone for the final leg of the show on Saturday where it would be a strictly dancehall affair.
The show is expected to revive a now defunct music genre that was in the past was popularised by the likes of Tribal Monks croaky voiced rapper Pongo Ristaz, DT Selepeng of Ghetto Flava fame and Dr Vom who has now derailed to dikhwaere. BOPA
