Repay SHHA loans - Mogodi
16 Nov 2016
The Moshupa Sub district council chairperson, Mr Benjamin Mogodi has encouraged Batswana who have been assisted by government through the Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) programme to settled down their housing loans.
Mr Mogodi said this during the on-going council meeting in Moshupa on November 16.
He said P722 000 was still being owed as at September 30, this year. Mr Mogodi explained that most of the defaulters were beneficiaries with an arrangement to pay back the loan over the counter.
He argued that since they were assisted through a revolving fund, delays in repaying the loans disadvantaged new applicants from also benefitting from the initiative because it puts a strain on the council‘s ability to continue helping new ones.
As a result, he said the waiting list for the home improvement and turnkey stood at 77 and 297 respectively.
However, he revealed that the last batch of turnkey housing component was progressing well with 51 out of 71 houses now complete. Mr Mogodi said the remaining projects were on-going at various stages.
On other issues, Mr Mogodi applauded Vice President and Member of Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi for donating 24 beasts to be slaughtered for Independence Day celebrations in the area.
He also commended Batswana for the spirit of patriotism they embodied during the celebrations. BOPA
