Water shortage persists in Good Hope

16 Nov 2016

Acute water shortage remains a challenge in the Good Hope Sub district, says council chairperson Ms Maobene Molefe.

Ms Molefe said this on November 14 during the sub council meeting. She explained that shortage of water emanates from decline or failure of underground sources as well as frequent engine failure.

Although the council together with Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) assists villages through bowsing, Ms Molefe said the programme is not consistent due to frequent fleet breakdown.

As a result, Ms Molefe said “this leads to interruptions of bowsing schedule and ultimately water shortage in areas that depend solely on bowsing that includes Mokatako, Tshidilamolomo, Motsentse and Magoriapitse.”

Ms Molefe further said most of the high yielding boreholes in the region have shown a drastic drop especially in Leporung well-field, Ramatlabama and of recent in Kgoro which has collapsed; resulting in severe water shortage in Pitsane cluster villages.

However, she said numerous projects undertaken in Good Hope sub district and were completed and commissioned on time to improve continuous water supply in the villages.

Ms Molefe indicated that the Sekhutlane Water reticulation project which was done in partnership with Water Utilities Corporation and Franklin Wells for the World Foundation was complete and has a new equipped borehole that will benefit Sekhutlane village to relief the current source.

She also noted that the Mogodi to Pitsane Water Supply project which is funded by the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services was commissioned in September this year; explaining that it is however not yet operational due to telemetry installation which is behind schedule.

The project will cater for Lorwana, Digawana, Pitsane cluster villages and Tlhareseleele villages once completed. BOPA
