Tonota police disperse pens down party

Police in Tonota, on November 11, foiled a potentially rowdy and violent ‘after exam party’ thrown by high school leavers at a certain farm in the outskirts of Tonota.
Station commander, Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse said in an interview that school leavers had converged in Tonota from various schools and places such as Tonota, Palapye, Francistown, Selebi Phikwe and Letlhakane, for the school closing party better known as Pens Down Party.
“We were able to disperse them with ordinary procedures, no trouble at all. Their main downfall was that they did not have a noise and nuisance permit,” said Spt Badumetse, adding that members of the public did well to report the matter swiftly.
Pens Down Parties were usually thrown at the end of final examinations as a way of saying goodbye to the unsettling exam puzzles. It was time to say good bye to the school and friends in a party form.
However, such bashes were reportedly charaterised by craziness originating from excessive consumption of alcohol and use of drugs.
In another incident, Supt Badumetse said a house burnt to ashes after it was struck by lightning on November 13.
He said, apart from damage to the structure, a stove was destroyed by the fire because the owner had recently relocated from the house.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Neo Serumola of Kutlwano Police in Francistown said the postmortem results of the three children who died recently at Block 7 in Francistown indicated that they died from excessive heat.
The trio, one aged two and two four-year-olds, were confirmed dead at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital after their lifeless bodies were found locked inside a broken down vehicle in the neighbourhood. BOPA
