10 Nov 2016
Ministry of Health and Wellness is currently outsourcing haemodialysis services from Gaborone Private Hospital, Bokamoso Private Hospital, Renal Care Institute at Princess Marina and Riverside Hospital in Francistown.
Answering a question in Parliament on Wednesday (November 9), Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said the ministry was also considering various options of offering haemodialysis in some of its facilities.
Furthermore, he said average cost of dialysis per session is P1 500 and there are three sessions per week, adding that currently there are 307 chronic patients on haemodialysis, and average annual cost is P73 Million.
Ghanzi North Member of Parliament, Mr Noah Salakae had wanted the assistant minister state as to how much government pays for haemodialysis in a year, and whether the prices were regulated, and also to state the private practitioners and health centres which government has engaged and when government would consider developing their own capacity to administer haemodialysis.
