The newly established First National Bank’s Mogoditshane Branch has pledged to donate 15 bicycles valued at P30 000 to Mogoditshane police for use to reduce crime in the area.
Speaking during a Crime Prevention Business Community meeting in Mogoditshane Wednesday (November 9), Mr Donald Moagi who is the FNB branch manager said the donation was part of the bank’s initiative towards ploughing back in to communities they operate in.
Mr Moagi said although they were hardly a month in the area, they were bound to come up with a community project aimed to improve lives of communities they served.
He said they were currently liaising with the bank’s foundation on how to go about the project and expressed optimism for the handing over to be carried out before end of the year to help increase police visibility in areas prone to crime.
The donation, he said was one of the bank’s initiative aimed to plough back into the community through a sustainable project that would benefit Mogoditshane community.
Opting for bicycles, he said would help ease transport shortage, thus increase reaction time to reported incident within their locality and be able to reach areas which cannot easily be accessed by vehicles
He called for fellow business community to come up with better strategies that would help frustrate crime in area such as bringing initiatives that would benefit the clientele at the expense of criminals, citing that the FNB through some of its initiatives minimises people in banking halls through self-service equipment devices.
The Mogoditshane branch manager further advised on the need for changing of deposit patterns by using different people and routes not easily picked by illicit operators.
Meanwhile, the Mogoditshane Station Commander Superintendent Agreement Mapeu said the purpose of the meeting was to embark on a special operation with key stakeholders to take measures towards ensuring zero tolerance to crime among Mogoditshane society.
He further advised on the need for the business community to come up with viable strategies that might help fight sophisticated crime syndicates terrorising business communities in the area.
The newly elected Mogoditshane business community secretary, Ms Baintlafatsi Kalayakgosi emphasised on the need for the business community to ensure screening people they hire to avoid habouring criminals. ENDS
