DCEC donates house in Kubung
09 Nov 2016
Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Thato Kwerepe says giving back to the less fortunate members of the society is a critical component of the spirit of self-reliance the nation of Botswana has come to be known for.
Speaking at a handover of a house donated by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) worth around P150 000 in Kubung, he said DCEC, staff and other stakeholders lived the teachings of the Bible that to love God they must first love their neighbours.
He said by donating the house the staff did contribute to uplifting the spirit of self reliance as espoused in national vision pillars and heed the President’s call to care and provide for the less fortunate members of the society.
He said though the original benefactor Mr Ramontsho Leshampatane passed on this May, the staff was steadfast to ensure completion of the house by parting with part of their salaries.
The house is the third DCEC and staff has built so far. Mr Kwerepe said what the staff did is test and challenge to other employees to emulate if they are to be regarded workers who can be relied upon and cherished by the community they serve.
He said the staff has not only heeded the presidential call to give back to less fortunate members of society, but also contributed to national vision ideals and that their gesture will be remembered for long.
The councillor for Kubung Mr Mmolotsi Phatsime said the donation is a gesture worth celebrating by residents especially the family of Rammontsho by providing a shelter.
He also commended stakeholders such as government utility companies and land board for ensuring that the house is timely connected with necessary amenities. He commended DCEC staff for their efforts in raising funds for the house construction and promised that the community will continue to support Leshampatane family.
Apart from donating a house, the staff of DCEC donated groceries to last three months, including bedding and house furniture.
The house was handed to sister of the deceased Ms Mmamosweu Dibeko. ENDS
