Government cannot afford to sponsor education alone
The deputy permanent secretary, policy development and research at the Ministry of Tertiary Education Research Science and Technology, Mr Oupa Mosesane said this during the friends of Japan dinner hosting for three students to study for post graduate studies at Akita University in Japan.
“The agenda for the ministry is to facilitate the economy of the country from natural resource based economy to a knowledge based economy ,” he said.
He urged those who took up the assistance to take their studies seriously and to apply themselves to the fullest so that the country’s economy could derive benefit from their country.
“We will forever be grateful to you for the assistance and your government and other Japanese agency for extending their hand to us in terms of training in various fields,” he said.
The Ambassador of Japan to Botswana, Mr Masahiro Onishi said the purpose of the event was to bring together former students who have studied in Japan, including those who will be leaving to study in Japan next year for networking each other.
“It is the fourth opportunity for us to host this dinner reception. I believe this meeting has contributed pretty much to promote friendly relationship between two countries,” he said.
Mr Onishi said the event marked the 50th anniversary of Botswana’s independence and also that of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Botswana and Japan.
“It is with great happiness and privilege for me to host this reception in this commemorative year,” he said. BOPA
