Makuta revels in new status

09 Nov 2016

Makuta in the Tutume Sub-district has rapidly changed from being ploughing lands of some pioneer settlers of Nswazwi village and has seen notable developments come through.

These developments have not only made the area gain its status as a village, but has enhanced the landscape and brought some of the critical services closer to the residents.

In an interview, the chairperson of the Village Development Committee (VDC), Mr Alakanani Thabiwe expressed that they are indebted for the developments that are largely due to the government’s efforts.

He noted that one of the developments they are awaiting with much anticipation is the construction of the clinic and the nurse’s accommodation.

Mr Tlhabiwe noted that village elders were officially informed the projects will be rolled out next year through the Economic Stimulus Programme’s second phase (ESP).

“Although the project has not yet commenced, we are optimistic that all is under control, we have some official documents that indicate that the projects are under way.

So far a site for the projects has been identified, the formal procedure to acquire the land has been completed and the plan has also been designed,” he said.

He also indicated that relevant stakeholders such as the District Health Management Team (DHMT) at Tutume Sub-district and several others relevant to the projects have consultative meetings with village elders to give them an update of the project.

Mr Tlhabiwe said they are over the moon about these developments as it will save them challenges of travelling to Tutume or Nshakashogwe village to access medical attention.

He highlighted that they solely depend on the mobile clinic from Nshakashogwe that visit them once a month for minor services such as routine weight check-ups for toddlers.

“We do not despise the support we have always received from the mobile clinic, but due to their other commitments, this sometimes make it difficult for them to reach us at the expected time,” he said.

Mr Thabiwe also noted that the clinic will be of a modern structure, citing the consultation room, the drugs room, the toilets and several other entities.

He said though they are yet to be briefed about the operational standard of the clinic and the kind of services to be accessed, they are hopeful that it will cater for several services such as giving out Antiretrovirals, Tuberculosis drugs and others. ENDS
