Official calls for optimal library usage

A senior library assistant in Jwaneng, Mr Thabiso Chepete has called for the efficient use of the public library and its resources.
In an interview, Mr Chepete said that he had observed that few people use the Jwaneng library. “It is usually the same people that come to the library and mostly for Internet services,” he said.
He said that the public library is open during weekdays from 9am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 9am 3pm, adding that the opening hours on Saturdays allows people who may be held up during the week to use the library.
“These days the world revolves around information and as such it is important for one to equip themselves with knowledge and the library serves as a platform to gain information,” he said.
Mr Chepete said the library has different kinds of books which people could use to educate themselves on different ventures, including newspapers and magazines.
“Almost every day a newspaper is delivered in the library and all kinds of newspapers can be found here,” he said.
He also said newspapers can be useful to those who may be looking for jobs as most organisations advertise their posts through newspapers.
“There are computers in the library that people can come and use,” he said.
He said among the few people that come through to the library, mostly are children and youth.
He has however commended all those who use the library saying that they cooperate well with the staff.
He said they have not experienced any challenges with regard to the utilisation of resources in the library.
He cited slow Internet as a challenge, attributing it to people downloading stuff from websites at the same time.
He encouraged unemployed youth to use the library to research and get information that they could use for a living. He said there are also short computer literacy courses that people can register for to learn basic computer skills.
The 23 -year -old Gomolemo Ntwaetsile, said he uses the library regularly mostly for Internet services and he gains a lot of knowledge.
He said he appreciates the quiet and conducive environment that the library provides.
“My concentration span is usually high when I am in the library and I think it’s because of the quiet and orderly atmosphere in the place,” he said. ENDS
