Leakages raise water bill
09 Nov 2016
The recent monthly consumption of water at Letlhakane Senior Secondary School is 9.434 kilolitres which cost the school some P41 997
Answering a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraela Goya said the figures represent the monthly consumption and unmeasured amount of water lost through occasional leakages on pipes whose useful life has expired.
He indicated that the situation makes the school environment less conducive to teaching and learning and negatively impacts on the ministry’s budget.
Mr Goya further said the water reticulation pipes used are galvanised pipes and as old as the school, which are susceptible to corrosion as compared to PVC reticulation plastic pipes.
“Through the assistance of the Department of Electrical and Engineering Services (DBES), the ministry has carried out a conditional survey at the school which plans the refurbishment of electrical, mechanical and all defects on academic, student hostels and teachers houses to be undertaken during the National Development Plan (NDP) 11,” he explained.
Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to state the monthly consumption and wastage of water at Letlhakane Senior Secondary School and how the situation affects students and the school business.
He also asked the minister to further state the water reticulation situation at the school and when the anomalies will be attended to. ENDS
