BOMU honours Khama

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, on Monday (November 7) received the Botswana Music Union (BOMU) patrons award in recognition of his support for the music industry.

The award comprised a trophy and certificate.

President Khama thanked BOMU for the recognition, saying he was humbled that his efforts were fruitful, adding that music had done a lot in uniting the nation.

He said he was delighted that, “there is a lot of interest in traditional contemporary music and that the Botswana music is grounded and growing.”

When presenting the award on behalf of BOMU, the patron, Mr Kagiso Ntime, stated that they held music awards annually to recognise talents.

Mr Ntime stated that President Khama’s nomination for the award followed his tireless and continued support for arts and culture in Botswana since assuming the office.

He hailed him for significantly contributing to the arts and creative industry, adding that his efforts were appreciated locally and internationally.

Mr Ntime said President Khama was recognised at leadership level for influencing and making a way for policy makers to recognise musical talent.

He said since President Khama came into office, the arts industry had grown and it was no longer used to pass time but became a way of living.

“He has given us a wider platform during his stay as President and he deserves an appreciation,” Mr Ntime said.

For his part, BOMU secretary general, Mr Pagson Ntsie  thanked President Khama for introducing the President’s Day celebrations, which helped to unearth talent.

Mr Ntsie said the money that artists received from BOMU had transformed their lives drastically.

He said the President Day celebrations provided a platform for Botswana artists to take their work seriously. ENDS
