The performance improvement coordinator at Tsabong Education Centre, Ms Neo Tsietso says the adoption of schools by business community and other stakeholders through the Adopt- A- School initiative is yet to gain momentum in the Kgalagadi South region .
Speaking during Werda Primary School excellence awards and prize giving ceremony on Friday (November 4), Ms Tsietso said though she applauded the few parties that contributed to the development of education in Kgalagadi South region , she however, remained resolute that schools needed more backing.
She said Adopt- A-School initiative in the Kgalagadi North region was doing well as such appealed for the donors in the Kgalagadi South region to emulate their counterparts.
Moreover, the education officer noted that some potential good Samaritans had embraced the mind-set that adopting a school involved making a contribution of the highest proportion.
“The business community should not think that Adopt- A-School initiative requires them to make the grandest of impact. We accept every kind of a good deed that come our way.”
Ms Tsietso hailed the efforts of one patron, Mr Dick Kalantle who continues to empower the schools in Hereford, Makopong, San Mackenzie, Kokotsha and Werda. She noted that Mr Kalantle had donated a floating trophy that was won by the best performing school (gauged by PSLE results) and also dispense financial incentives to top achieving students in the cluster.
The performance auditing official added that academic excellence could only be realised through concerted efforts between schools, parents and the private sector.
The school head, Mr Fanuel Mmereki said the school encompassed 492 students, 70 of which were reception/pre school students. He highlighted that Werda Primary school as an old institution of learning was in short supply of resources hence the fluctuating performance of its students in yearly basis. ENDS
