Teachers should be exemplary

07 Nov 2016

Business man, Mr Simon Simon, has encouraged parents to participate in the education of their children.

Mr Simon advised parents during Pitsonyana Primary School prize giving ceremony in Molapowabojang on Friday (November 4).

He said children spent a lot of time at schools, therefore could easily get influenced positively or otherwise by the way teachers comported themselves in front of them.

Mr Simon also urged teachers to use appropriate language to address learners, adding some words could either make or break them.

He said treating learners with dignity and respect was a paramount step in the creation of learner friendly schools.

Mr Simon challenged teachers to play a parental role at schools to ensure they learned values such as Botho, which Batswana were known for.

Mr Simon further encouraged learners not to get disheartened by the distance they walked to and from school every day.

He said he also used to walk from Molokwe to attend school in Molapowabojang.

The business man furthermore lashed at some parents for not taking part in the education of their children and leaving the role to be played by teachers only.

He said it was important for parents to equally play a role as teachers.

For her part, the deputy school head, Ms Masego Kole said the aim of the ceremony was to motivate learners to work hard at their studies hoping to also get recognised and rewarded.

She also encouraged parents to encourage their children to explore some talents they have, adding not every child was gifted in academics.

“Don’t demoralise those who did not do well in their studies find something they are good at and encourage them to maximise.” ENDS
