Education key to prosperity

Deputy director general - mega projects in the National Strategy Office, Dr Kolaatamo Malefho has implored students to develop positive attitude towards education.

Officiating at Makolo Primary School prize giving ceremony and victory party for Class of 2015 on Thursday (November 3), Dr Malefho said education was the vehicle to prosperity; thus they should have a positive attitude towards it.

He described education as the most powerful tool to the ever changing challenges of life, especially at this time when minerals were at depletion levels.

He said calls for strong human resource development that will meet the country’s demand were loud and clear.

He stressed government’s commitment to education and the importance of participation of all stakeholders’ to education development.

He director-general also highlighted the importance of the input of students saying without their input nothing would be achieved regardless of other stakeholder’s contributions.

He advised those who did not perform well not to despair but to go an extra mile to do better.

He applauded the teachers and other stakeholders for their contribution that led to the good performance of the school, despite the shortage of educational materials.

Dr Malefho said the school did not attain the results by fluke but it was a culmination of a deliberate plan which was executed well, adding that it was evidenced by the fact that their results had been improving over time.

He said drugs and alcohol accounted for poor performance in most schools; hence he advised the students to shun drugs and alcohol.

The school head, Ms Dimpho Lefoko  said the school’s academic performance  had improved significantly over time due to all the stakeholders’ participation, including BOTUSAFE, which adopted the school in 2013.

She said they had received appreciation letters from their leaders for being among the top 20 schools in the country.

The school also scoped position three in Serowe sub region.

BOTUSAFE finance manager, Ms Kesegofetse Galeemelwe pledged P1 000 and a power bank to each teacher.

Among those who received awards on the day was the overall best student in 2015 Primary School Leaving Examinations in Serowe sub region, Mr Keletso Tsamai. ENDS
