Khwae urges school leavers to dream big

07 Nov 2016

Former member of parliament for Kgalagadi North, Mr Phillip Khwae has urged school leavers to allow themselves the courage and freedom to fantasise on their visions while waiting for their results in order to discover what their lives could stand for.

Mr Khwae said this when addressing a combination of Std VII, Form III and V pupils during banquet organised by African Evangelical Church recently.

He said achievers should be dreamers and doers, so they needed to take small steps that would ultimately lead to another. He called on pupils who completed their examinations and those still sitting for Botswana General Certificate Senior Certificate to trust upon God for the successful outcome to their results and endeavours. “Work on your motivation daily and allow your dream to be at the forefront of your life, the core of your being. It will motivate, inspire and energise you by giving a sense of purpose even if you get bad results’’, he said.

He said teachers had worked hard as a team to help them do well. Mr Khwae said parents had also played their role by sacrificing whatever funds they had to ensure that their children got an education with high hopes that they would pass and proceed to the next level.

He added that it’s now upon the pupils to develop a positive pattern of thinking and great attitude, which will propel them down the road to success.

African Evangelical Church, Apostol Marshall Maripe said the banquet event was meant to acknowledge and recognize the good work pupils put forth by writing their examinations. He said this idea was triggered by one unfortunate incident whereby a Form V leaver committed suicide after failing her BGCSE examinations.

Apostol Maripe said it’s quite imperative to give the school leavers some sense of hope in life. Nevertheless, he implored school leavers to refrain from illicit behaviour such as indulging in alcohol and drugs, adding that through such behaviour students may end up destroying their bodies and hindering their dreams to come to pass.

He called on pupils to study hard once they got admitted to the next level in order to compete with students from the global village because jobs have suddenly become global.

A nurse at Kang clinic, Ms Cilia Mazorodze advised pupils sitting for examinations not to despair as it was not too late.

She said there was still room to go back to the drawing board and put their acts together. ENDS
