Khama hosts destitute persons
06 Nov 2016
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has said government was still dealing with the backlog of paying headmen of arbitration in the country.
He said it was upon completion of the exercise that government could consider the request by Kgosi Fanuel Mokalake of Modipane, that two headmen of arbitration be appointed in Mokatse.
President Khama said this when he hosted destitute persons at Mokatse village on Saturday (November 5) where he donated chairs, Bibles, solar lights and blankets and later served them dinner.
He also informed Mokatse residents that he would enquire from the Botswana Police Service what transpired with their request to have additional special constables in their village.
The President said he would be waiting for an invitation to come and officially open Leobo in Modipane after a date had been set, and also advised them to liaise with his senior private secretary Brigadier George Tlhalerwa to assist them.
President Khama also commended Modipane Primary School polka dance group adding that he had seen the growth of polka in Kgatleng.
He also promised to fly the group to next year’s Kgalagadi Polka Festival together with their two trainers, who originate from Bokspits and their teacher.
President Khama commended the duo for teaching the children polka dance, saying he had seen it in Oodi a few months ago during his visit.
Earlier, Kgosi Mokalake requested for the increment of special constables following the transfer of three police officers in Mokatse, leaving behind only one officer who has a heavy load of work.
Kgosi Mokalake also said they would love it if the President could perform the official opening of Leobo in Modipane, particularly that it was built through the spirit of volunteerism encouraged by government.
He noted that the project needed P50 000 to complete.
Giving vote of thanks, Councillor Obitseng Malesele of Modipane thanked President Khama for the good gesture and finding time in his tight schedule to be with them.
He expressed hope that their requests as raised by Kgosi Mokalake would be addressed.
President Khama donated 30 chairs, 55 blankets, Bibles, solar lights, football kits to the local soccer team and two balls. ENDS
