MogopeBoatle lights to be rectified
02 Nov 2016
There is a stretch of street lights along Ramotswa/Boatle road up to the Water utilities Corporation (WUC) office that are functioning, whilst those along the road going from Magope to Boatle are not functioning.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said when responding to a question in Parliament from Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana.
The reason for this, Ms Tshireletso said was that during the project for widening shoulders of the road from Boatle to Ramotswa border (carried out by the Ministry of Transport and Communications), the contractor damaged cables supplying power to the street lights.
“The damaged cables supply street lights that are installed from the border to WUC,” she said.Following the handover of these roads, Ms Tshireletso said her ministry then requested the Ministry of Transport and Communications to assist in rectifying the problem and funds were sourced to repair affected street lights and install new street lights from WUC office to Boatle.”
However, she said Ministry of Transport and Communications only managed to secure funds for repairs of the existing lights.
Therefore, the work that was completed in October 2016, she said was only for the first stretch of street lights.
“The outstanding repairs from Magope to Boatle will be attended to when additional funds become available,” said Ms Tshireletso.
Mr Rantuana wanted to know if Ms Tshireletso was aware that street lights along Ramotswa/Boatle road had been installed or repaired only up to WUC office and the rest of the road from Magope to Boatle was dark.ENDS
