02 Jun 2013
The Department of Information Services scooped the first position at the BOCCIM Northern Trade Fair in the media category. The department won the award ahead of The Voice newspaper and Yarona Fm.
For the past two years, the department came in the runners up position, and this time around, it competed with sheer determination to lift the trophy.
Last year, the department settled for the second position with the winner being Ministry of Trade and Industry on the government department’s category.
Outlining the judging criteria, chief judge for the stalls Mr Humphrey Nawa said their judgement was based on three main points; the overall appearance of the stall including display of goods and/or services, quality of goods and products and presentations.
He said the standard of exhibition was excellent as compared to last year’s fair and appealed to exhibitors to always understand the theme of the show.
Meanwhile, Debswana senior finance manager, Mr Obakeng Moroka commended BOCCIM for their role in shaping the private sector and encouraging its growth towards contributing to the economy, while at the same time representing them at the table of policy dialogue with the government.
Mr Moroka said the diverse list of exhibitors was encouraging and enhanced business skills networking. He also noted that the show provided opportunities for private sector to reflect on their performance with regards to their symbiotic partnership with the government to achieve economic growth and diversification.
Other winners were Ministry of Lands and Housing with runners being the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs and Botswana Police Service in the government departments category.
The overall winner went to Mphoriam Investments, which was also the winner under the traders category.
Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) sponsored this year’s fair at tune of P70 000. Other sponsors were Debswana which donated P50 000, Shell Oil Botswana, Panda, BDF, Builders World as well as Ihawu Holdings and Tati Nickel mine. ENDS
