Designers turn to waste

01 Nov 2016

The world of arts and fashion has of recent been in touch with the world of waste; and this past week the Zero Waste BW, powered by Prime Projects hosted the first Eco-Couture fashion show creatively directed by Mothusi Lesolle.

With the term Eco-Fashion being the new force in fashion industry, various brands have used recycled materials to minimise waste and at the same time crafting unique products.

Eco-fashion is a broader term used for all clothing, fabrics and accessories that have been manufactured in an environmentally conscious way.

In an interview, the marketing manager of Prime Projects Whitney Molefi said the idea to host the show was in tune with the Zero Waste symposium.

Molefi said they wanted to dramatically reduce the volumes of waste being sent to landfills.

Eight local designers from University of Botswana and Limkokwing were engaged and required to make three garments each and the garments were made from 90 per cent waste while Empire Models were on board to provide modeling services. ENDS
