Ministry identifies need to provide support
30 Oct 2016
The Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Fidelis Molao, says he is aware that Jwaneng Technical College does not have a counsellor to enhance student support.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Molao said his ministry had identified the need to provide support services, including counselling services to students enrolled in their technical colleges.
He said in 2013 to 2014, they piloted a counseling programme funded by the World Bank through National AIDS Council Agency (NACA) as part of the Botswana National AIDS Prevention Support. He said this project provided technical colleges and brigades with counsellors who provided psycho-social support to students.
Mr Molao said his ministry, whilst appreciating the need to provide counsellors in technical colleges, was unable to do so due to financial constraints.
Jwaneng-Mabutsane MP, Mr Shawn Nthaile had asked the Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology if he was aware that Jwaneng-Mabutsane Technical College did not have a counselor to enhance student support and what action would be taken to address the problem. ENDS
