26 Oct 2016

Artistes have been urged to compose their own songs when preparing for constituency competitions.

This was said by adjudicator, Phemo Kapo at the ward constituency competitions held in Bobonong recently.

He said originality is the only factor that could give their work quality and make them different.

Kapo encouraged artistes to do thorough research adding that copying or mimicking other people’s work would not earn them marks.

He said it is crucial for artistes who use traditional instruments like guitar and setinkane to know the technical skills behind those instruments.

Kapo cited thumbing technique as one of the aspects necessary.

Moreover, Kapo encouraged those who were doing poetry to vary their tones.

“Just like drama, poetry has an introduction, body and conclusion,” he expkained.

He said  for a poem to qualify as good it has to have similes, metaphors, literary words and other figurative speech of language.

Kapo urged artistes to put on the relavant costumes when performing.

For his part, Bigboy Motshetla who was also an adjudicator encouraged artistes to put more power or energy when on stage.

He urged artistes to seek choreographers to help them with dancing styles and how to use the platform when preparing for competitions.

Motshetla said it is important for dikhwaere artistes to add a sense of harmony on their songs as harmony gives dikhwaere their natural Setswana flavour.

He said when performing dikhwaere, artistes should avoid using a whistle (phala) when it is not necessary adding that a whistle is used to show song’s transition and also a whistle is used to display a joy kind of mood.

Motshetla encouraged artistes to use their props when on stage.

Manameja Nkwe Thabeng of Rasetimela ward in Bobonong emerged winners while Bana ba nare took position one in their ward. ENDS
