26 Oct 2016

Councillors have been implored to acquaint themselves with new ministry names, leadership and roles to be able to guide and assist communities they serve.

When opening the Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-district Council on Monday, chairperson Mr Duncan Ramasiagopana advised councillors that being equipped with information would facilitate continuous service delivery.

He updated the meeting on the visit to the sub-district by the presidential inspectorate task team.

He said from the visit, it was realised that project monitoring was still a challenge and remained an area that needed to be strengthened.

He said 1 377 farmers registered for inputs (seeds, fertilisers and herbicides) for the coming ploughing season and that the department had trained 108 farmers on conservation agriculture and the use of the drought tolerant crops.

Under poverty eradication, Mr Ramasiagopana also Gakgatla ward councillor confirmed that 121 beneficiaries have received packages and that procurement and distribution of packages was ongoing.

On issues relating to education, Mr Ramasiagopana indicated that through the Thuto Network Connectivity ESP phase two project, four primary schools have benefited ICT infrastructure and connectivity including 50 computers and 50 printers. He showed concern over the rate at which children lose books and the safety of ICT equipment.

“Book availability currently stands at 71 per cent in primary schools, 62 per cent junior and 52 per cent in senior schools,” he said.

On another account, Mr Ramasiagopana urged councillors to assist in engaging communities when coming up with street names, roads and government facilities. ENDS
