Black Forest claim first win
24 Oct 2016
Tenderfoots, Black Forest claimed their first maximum points when they convincingly walloped Gilport Lions 2-0 during a BTC Premiership encounter at the Molepolole Sports Complex on October 23.
Having sent early warnings that they will be no pushovers when they stood against some of the league’s heavy weights when the league started, it was no surprise when Magoleng claimed the scalps of the more experienced Gilport Lions.
The Mankgodi-based outfit sent signals that they will take the game to Lions as soon as the whistle blowed as they started putting their opponent’s defence under threat through the duo of Lynoth Chikuhwa Thatayaone Kgamanyane.
It was no surprise when the latter broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute after slicing through the Lions defence, sending raptures throughout the sports complex which was mostly populated by the greenhorn’s supporters.
Lions did not threaten their opponents much, except for a few sporadic attacks which were mostly repelled by the alert goal minder, Michael James.
This was despite Lions having as much as four experienced strikers upfront in Kenanao “Flo” Kgetholetsile, Patrick Kaunda, Unobatsho Mbaiwa and Tendai Nyamadzawo.
Forest could in fact, have scored more goals have it not been for poor decision making and communication, which sometimes saw their players going for the same ball just outside the box.
After the break, Magoleng continued to stand strong against Lions, whose fitness level looked suspect, and the constant pressure paid off when the hard tackling Tumisang “Butcher” Sekanonyane brought down Mogomotsi Kerebotswe just outside the box.
Maikano “Tsotsi” Maikano dully stepped up and hammered home a freekick that could have won even the envy of top professional strikers, leaving Lions goalkeeper, Lesego Bosekeng rooted to the spot as it sailed into the far corner. The goal sealed three valuable points for the Mankgodi lads and sent its horde of travelling fans into cloud nine. ENDS
