Tsogwane hands over ESP projects
24 Oct 2016
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has handed over Senyawe and Mambo customary courts that were built at the tune of over P2 million through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Speaking at the handing over of the Senyawe project on October 21, Mr Tsogwane commended the contractors for meeting the deadline and delivering within specifications.
He noted that through ESP, Batswana contractors had proved that they were capable especially at a critical time when the country had encountered problems with the completion of mega projects.
He explained that the Mambo and Senyawe projects were started in May and were completed as scheduled in September, with the Mambo project creating employment to 18 residents, while the Senyawe one employed 17.
The minister applauded the Senyawe contractor for assisting the residents with water when their village was faced with water shortage recently.
He said he was aware that resources such as furniture and vehicles had not yet been provided for the two customary courts but his ministry was working on modalities to avail such as soon as possible.
The director of Pine Hill Construction, a company that carried out the Senyawe project, Mr Tshambani Gwakuba thanked government for ESP saying it boasted the construction industry.
Mr Gwakuba, however, noted that since there was only one supplier of face bricks in the country, there was a challenge as the supplier could not cope with the demand.
Senyawe councillor, Mr William Tatose said, despite the current state of the economy, Senyawe and some villages in the district managed to have some projects back after being suspended since 2008.
He said some of the projects that are being carried out through ESP were a block of classrooms, ablution facilities, teachers’ houses in Masunga, Kalakamati and Gambule villages.
Kgosi Obuile Mambo of Mambo thanked the government for the customary court offices saying they had been operating in VDC structures and some of them did not give them dignity and privacy at all.ENDS
